Ebay Salvage Watch: Victorian Marble Fireplace
As of last night, this marble fireplace from the 1880s had no bids on it and could be had for $750. Although it comes from a brownstone up the Hudson River, we think it would fit right in somewhere in Brownstone Brooklyn. Better hurry though — the auction ends in about three hours!

If ever upstate shopping around - I've been to a place on 9W just north of Newburgh in Middlehope (on west side of road) that seems to have quite a few of these salvaged mantels in stone and wood. I bought a couple wood ones a couple years ago for about $100 each.

It's marble.

If it's the same place I'm thinking about on Rt 9W, they have nice things, but I thought it was kind of pricey. Better than Atlantic Ave prices, but not as good as Eddie. There's a huge salvage place in Kingston, but again, not that much of a bargain. You can grab some nice stuff at the Stormville Antique Fair. It's usually on holiday weekends.
And that sure looks like marble to me! Anyone know what it went for? I'm too lazy to look it up.

I'm from carrara and not to be a snob, that doesn't look like a good marble mantle to me, actually little be more like stone that it was painted first and then stripped, typical pattern of the black painted mantles. anyway it's nice but not great.when you spend the day renting the van and going to pick it up it becomes a 1500 $ piece.
