Angles, Setbacks and Windows on Adelphi Street
There's a new 5-story building going up at 184 Adelphi Street between Willougby and Myrtle. It's too early too tell whether its angular modernism will be successful or not but we're curious to know how residents are feeling about it. We're just happy to see some decent-sized windows for a change! The building was designed by Michael Marshall Architecture. Ever heard of 'em? Just for kicks, we include a photo of a beautiful woodframe house--of mid-19th century origin, we assume--across the street at Number 183.

Nothing wrong at all with the massing and fenestration of this new infill -- I like it. But the devil is in the details -- everything will depend on how the cladding is handled, especially at the windows.

I THINK it's going to have a very modern feel to it. if you check out mark wisotsky on corcoran's website he has something on hisw site that looks like the finished product of this.

i had been wondering if it was the same architect as the one on Myrtle between Adelphi and Clerment (for sale w/ Corcoran). i don't mind it. it's an interesting unlandmarked block, with a mix of beautiful homes, and some not so pretty.
sadly we have a major eye sore on that corner. the horribly ugly deli sign that's left from the store that only lasted a few weeks. i was pretty bummed the day they put the sign up- it's blinding! now that the deli isn't even open, i wish the owners of the building would take it down.

that's the house being built by neighborhood character Russell. It was formerly a one story garage that he rented for about twenty years before buying about three years ago. He started building about two years ago, ran out of money, left it for about a year, and restarted about five months ago. I don't remember what the facing is going to look like, but it'll be notable--that I can guarantee.
