Looking For A New Reno Blogger

As many of you have noticed, after his most recent set-back with the LPC, Shahn Andersen has decided to pull the plug on the Cambridge Renovation blog. That, combined with the fact that the site has been too light on the renovation front in recent months, means we are looking for a new reno blogger. If you've recently started a townhouse renovation or will be getting going in the next month or so, please email us. You don't have to be doing the work yourself (we certainly didn't), but we want someone who will be in the trenches and at least a gung-ho weekend warrior. A fairly thick skin is also required. We assume most folks reading this will be from Brooklyn, but it's not a necessity--Harlem could be fun too.

We're in the midst of renovating our Brownstone in Bedford Stuyvesant. I'd like to think my skin is thick, but I've contemplated recording our dealings with contractors and the like and opted not to b/4. I think we're ready to share our joy and PAINS now!We're a few months in, so let me know if this will work for you.

My reno blog is about how we have no money and therefore have taken 20 years to get our house barely half-renovated, and how we are too inept to put our doorknobs back on when they fall off. If you wake up in Bizarro World some morning, use us! Meanwhile, I'll look forward to the new candidate. Should be no shortage of good possibilities; hope the winner is FUNNY (too-serious renovators are a bummer). Have you checked out the Old-House webring?

It's actually something I've been thinking of doing on my own, but I just don't have the time. If it was a group effort, like "My Brownstone" and I wouldn't have to post every day, I'm in. I hear ya, Brenda. Our first reno took us 10 years and then we sold the house as soon as we were done.

I'm about 3 weeks into my townhouse gut renovation in Williamsburg, posting lot of pics and updates at least 3-4 times per week. Let me know if you are interested.

We are currently about 2/3 of the way through a full gut renovation of a 4 story town house in Prospect Heights. We do not have a blog on our renovation but would be interested in sharing photos and stories of the process to post on Brownstoner.

Brenda from Flatbush - I actually live about three blocks down from you and pass your house almost everyday. It's got great bones but it's huge, so obviously you can't do everything at once. I certainly can't over at my house. Anyway, when I bought my house I discovered behind a wall of sheetrock a fabulous stained glass window that was literally smashed in numerous places with a sledgehammer. I had the guy on 5th Ave in Park Slope fix it pretty much right away. It ran about $500 and was worth every penny. My house still needs a lot of big projects tackeled, but I've never regretted getting that window fixed. I smile everytime I walk by it. Fix yours, and you will too.

Anon at 4:11, we're actually ready to fix those bloody windows (had to strip the paint off first!!!!!--paint? Yes, on both sides)...who on Fifth Ave did you use? Thanx! (and thanks for not throwing rocks when you pass by)

I had paint on my dining room stained glass - they were painted black. I used diluted paint stripper. It worked, but what a pain! The guy on 5th near the Old Stone House... I'll try to find out the official name. they come to the house and take the windows out and put back in as well, but my contractor did that for me. Also my windows were very large - yours are much smaller, so I would think less $ for the restoration. They worked a mirror with my window, I have to say.

I can add my garden renovation, which is still ongoing, to the My Brownstoner section. I sent you a link to some early pics a last year, Mr. B. With even more planting and lots of growth, the garden now looks significantly different from those.

I don't know if you would want it as a blog since technically the project is not about to start but has been underway for 2-3 years. We have pics documenting the whole thing so you could just put them up in sections every week, if there was more interest in the blog format. Let me know...
