Ground Broken at Big Bed Stuy Corner Lot

Construction is underway at the corner of Bedford and Monroe in Bed Stuy. Anyone know what the plans are for this site? GMAP

I think the YMCA is expanding. It is a nice Y now, but is supposed to get even better.

I go to the Y...there is a brand new one in my building and it has a pool, full size basketball courts, steam rooms, saunas, treadmills w/ TV's (although I prefer to run outside), etc., etc., etc. Point being, not bad for a YMCA.

I don't know if I'd call that a prime location. I love Bed Stuy, but Bedford is not the prettiest avenue in the city. And the new Y is gonna make that location much better with an attractive courtyard out front and a great gym inside. To me it represents an amenity in an area where they are few and far between. And there is no shortage of developable lots all along Bedford, Nostrand, etc.

As a long-time Y member (McBurney), I whole-heartedly agree with Drew. The Y is a wonderful amenity for any neighborhood, provides much needed services to different groups in the community (ie. NOT based solely on the ability to pay) and should boost RE values to boot. What's not to love?

This is a long time location of the Bedford Y. There was an older building here which the Y owned and demolished in order to build a larger facility. It's also home to one of the few indoor pools in the hood...
