Condo of the Day: The Woodrow Wilson
We're curious to hear what people think of 255 Eastern Parkway aka the Woodrow Wilson. We dig the exterior of the building and we've always assumed it had typically generous pre-war dimensions and details. We suspect that the reason this 1,600-square-foot five-bedroom feels a little more cramped is that an extra bedroom or two were carved out of the original space--probably at the same time that the crown moldings were removed. Still, there can't be too many other options in the area for a large family that's not interested in townhouse living. Who can tell us more about the building?

This is 255 Eastern Parkway, not 61. It is between Classon and Frnaklin. It was a condo conversion from about 4 years ago. A beautiful prewar condo with part time doorman. Huge apatments some renovated, others not becuase they were purchase by the tenant during the insider buying period. A wonderful deal.

Looks like a gorgeous apartment. The neighborhood is definitely improving, too. Right near the express train. If I had four kids, I just might consider it.

Good catch. Thanks.

Am kicking myself indeed. If I am not mistaken, a few months after 9/11 I went to an open house in this building. They had just renovated a few apartments. The agent showed me two as is apartments and two renovated ones. I cannot recall the cost of the as is apts, but the renovated two bedrooms were available for under 175K. My husband and I passed on them. Makes me sad that back then I could have afforded to buy on Eastern Parkway and Butler St. on a temp's salary and now as a practicing attorney, I don't have enough cash because prices have skyrocketed. LOL

This place is the best. The area is ridiculously undervalued now. There are so many great things nearby: parks, the renovated Bklyn museum, the botanic garden, and the some of the best transportation in Brooklyn. the 2,3,4,5 and S train all stop on the corner. And witht the Richards Meir building coming soon, this area is about to explode. The Woodrow Wilson is one of the nicest ofn the block and the apartments are all enormous with high ceilings and beautiful wood floors.

I lived in the building at 255 for 13 years, but moved to a house in 1982 or so. At that time the building was going downhill, bad elevator, no water pressure or services, etc. (A doctor with office in the bldg had bought it & was not keeping it up.) But the apts were great, big rooms, well laid out, solid parquet floors, high ceilings, etc, & right across the street from the bot. gdn & museum. Also the Labor Day parade came right by the front door. It probably makes great condos.
I will never forget in the manager's office was a builder's sketch of the place with people in 20s outfits & old coupes parked in front. It was the first apartment to be built on that block.

I have a friend that lives in this building. She has been there for a while now and loves it.. I personally have been in the market for a while now and can honestly say that for the location the price for this apartment is excellent! You get loads of space, and the trains are like right outside your door!

I like in Park Slope, but I think the stretch of Eastern Parkway beginning at the Grand Army Plaza area is gradually getting better and better. Already, the Copley at 41 Eastern Parkway is commanding $1 million-plus for its coops, when you could have easily bought a huge Classic 7 in that building for under $700,000 in 2003. (I know, because I passed it up. Sigh.)

I used to live in this apartment until about a year and a half ago (A15) and I absolutely loved it! Huge space, beautiful building, great neighborhood. The kitchen is a little small for such a massive space but the 5th bedroom (which is really a 1/2 bedroom behind the kitchen) could easily be used to expand the kitchen. Other than that, I loved this apartment.
