Clermont Bummers Outside of LPC's Reach

househouse
house
We were disheartened to see these two eyesores marring the stretch of Clermont between Myrtle and Park Avenues. Number 90, at left, is completely out of context and number 71, well, the air conditioners speak for themselves. The bigger question, though, is what's going to happen on this lot on the corner of Clermont and Myrtle. GMAP

i'm very curious about what will go here too. i asked the Myrtle Revitalization Association and they said market rate condos and storefronts- but had no further information... i had heard Barnes & Noble, but never believed that. although it seems to be true that Bank of America will be opening where Adami Hardware was. i won't believe it 'til i see it!

I'm actually working this summer at MARP on a movement to push for a Wallabout Historic District (roughly between Carlton, Flushing, Ryerson, and Myrtle). Anyone interested in more info or helping out? Any property owners in the area interested in getting designation (contrary to what many commenters on this blog think, the LPC is good for you). Email me if so.

Good on ya Brownstoner for checkin' out the nabe. Check out some of the (rundown) gems on Carlton or the beautiful row on Vanderbilt between Park and Flushing. Also note that 99 Ryerson (sadly without historic detail) was likely Whitman's home in 1855 when he published "Leaves of Grass". It's the only Whitman house left in Brooklyn.

Is it posible for a property to be below value the cost of construction upon completion? The building on the right can't be worth more than, $25,000 max, right?

whats wrong with the one on the left? looks modern and nice...

I love the house on the left - it was time to bring some modern design to Brooklyn - I know the owner and his wife - Austrian design - beautiful italian kitchen and modern bathrooms - you have to see it.
the penthouse on the last floor you will not believe it - very nice.

Can wait to move in.............

Glad to hear this will be more than a Fedders building, but it looks to tall to us for the block.

I live on Myrtle Ave and it is amazing the amount of active construction on the street. A Japanese restaurant just moved in between Hall & Washington. You have Scarano's buildng near Aldephi that has like 4 "famous" mezzanines and looks 2-stories too high. You have this hugh lot and you have the hugh 100' x 100' through lot on Vanderbilt Avenue next to Scarano's old project, which trys to look the Brooklyn Armory or something... very hidious! Seems like building is out of control and there aren't enough watchful eyes that care about what happens to this neighborhood!

While the Fedders on the right is clearly abysmal, the one on the left is just a shell. Might be beautiful, might not be. Anyone know of a rendering out there anywhere? Otherwise, we''' have to wait and see what this turns into.

the building on the left is a nice building and attached is the copy of the rendering. it is going to be a great building. I have been in there with some friends

I like it (and brownstones are what I really love.) But I thought the design was beautiful. Didn't care for the kitchen though but that's my own personal taste.

Re condos on empty lot, i think these are them:

Not bad looking, just wish they were a little less tall.

Too bad that the tall building on Clermont has a few Zoning and code violations after we checked the plans for them to help our friends at the DOB. Also the other two jobs are equally screwed up. Can you say REVOKED PERMITS three times fast. Not fun when the shoe is on the other foot I guess.
