Choice's Grand Opening Last Night

shop
Given how starved Clinton Hill is for more upscale food options, we were thrilled to hear such positive reviews from attendees of last night's opening party at Choice. We're looking forward to becoming regular consumers of its sandwiches, croissants, etc. Bring it on! The demand is there. Hopefully the warm reception the shop is receiving will encourage others to step up to the plate. Similar things happening in your neighborhood? Take a photo and send us a report!

didn't make it, but really looking forward to checking the place out! they are definitely filling a need.

Hard to judge. They handed out menus which suggested a rather extenxive bistro style fare. Also seelling salads by the pound. Seems to be set up for the buy and go crowd as the kitchen seems much larger than the sitting space. It was set up for the throngs of Pratt students and local residents who swarmed the location for the free sangria, quiches and mini burgers. I had thought it was going to be more of a market a la that place on fifth avenue in Park Slope (oaky I guess that isn't a very helpful description), but what with Dakar and Grand 275 (my favorite bar in the whole big old world) it will be quite the corner.

Lefferts Gardens just got a new, satisfying option for food - K-Dog and Dunebuggy Cafe. It's a great coffee shop. Great coffee, pastries, sandwiches, etc. I do not have a picture, however (and they're still working on the exterior). They're located on Lincoln Rd. right near the train station.

K-Dog's offerings do not seem as extensive as Choice's. But K-Dog is more of a coffee shop - a good one.

i'm really excited - i love grand 275 and i think Choice will just generate more traffic which is great for the area. It would be great to see something good open up in the old karrot place - maybe something like union market or gourment garage-like. it seems that there are 2 ends to the local grand ave drug trade, one at putnam and grand and the other at greene and grand - having more non-drug dealer/taker foot traffic would really help i think.

K-Dog has become a required stop on my way to the subway in the am -- good coffee and tea, really nice people, lots of people from the neighborhood, and really good interesting muffins.

And today for the first time, I saw they were selling "yesterday's muffins" for half price. In addition to appealing to my inherent cheapness, I just love the idea of not throwing out good food, and also the phrase just seemed so poetic or something. Got to figure out how to use that as an expression -- could it be used to describe something that you no longer care about -- like, "Please forget about it -- it's yesterday's muffins" or to decribe someone or something behind the times -- "That's so yesterday's muffins!" or, more positively, a bargain-priced find -- "Check out this yesterday's muffin I just got at the store -- only $19.95!"

Free food is always a draw for Pratt Students. Back when I was a starving artist, working on my BFA at Pratt; I went to every MFA opening reception as there was always a spread of food. You could make lunch or dinner out of the event. The finely honed freeloaders wore their Canal Jeans vintage suit jacket or overcoats and lined the pockets with plastic baggies to take back for a later meal.

i went last night and the food was amazing... amazing fresh made pastries that were high-end restaurant quality. and apprently they will be selling meats and breads as well. Homeade croissants in the morning!

very true, but don't forget that those students are some of the people that make this a fun and interesting neighborhood aside of having parents that spend so much money into pratt wich hopefully helps making this a better place.

It beats the suburban housewives of my youth who'd line their purses with plastic bags to load up on Cookie's free shrimp at the unlimited salad bar!

i've been stalking choice since they told me back in november that they were opening in "a couple of weeks".... we stopped by last night, and really enjoyed it. the people couldn't have been nicer, and the food was excellent---spinach quiche, fava bean salad, wonderful beet salad. and we grabbed a menu, and the prices aren't unreasonable. i was also psyched to see that they had some gourmet grocery type things on the shelves, and hope that they'll expand on that and/or take suggestions.

Sorry to disappoint those dreaming of a wonderful takeout supper, but I just passed by and their official opening is tomorrow (Friday) morning.

We just tried Choice. The food is not bad but the service is slow and inefficient. That is specially true of the girl behind the counter. She is forgetful and slow. She ruins the pastry by stuffing it in a bad. This place needs improvement by getting rid of bad employees and a faster cook.

I went by today too and I think they're just overwhlemed with the turnout and still ironing out eht kinks. I had quite a good spinach and feta quiche.

K-Dog & Dunebuggy's recently started selling quiche, too. It's home-made and it's the BEST quiche EVER! I don't live in New York, and I wish we had a K-Dog's here! You're lucky!
