Storefront Vacancies on Dekalb

stores
With the apparent demise of Liquors and an implied lack of demand for shoe repairs in Fort Greene, there are now two adjacent stores for rent on prime Dekalb Avenue between Adelphi and Clermont in Fort Greene. Does the placement of the stairwells mean these couldn't be combined into one larger space? Perhaps the buildings could be opened up in the rear. GMAP

I really hope they keep the sign -- I lived in Fort Greene when it really was a liquor store (albeit with virtually no stock).

Do they still have all the little Jamaican storefronts in Fort Greene that pretendt to sell clothes, record etc but really just sell pot?

I used t buy my pot at Reggae World on Smith Street in the early 1980's. Anyone else remember that place?

shoe repair is now on waverly between lafayette and greene

While a continous storefront would be highly desirable, it is possible to wrap a U-shaped store around the double entrances.

i am cheering the demise of liquors, home of the 2 hour wait for dinner (I mean your food, not a table!!)

Hopefully we will get a great restaurant in there, or if you combined the two will be big enough to have an organic market!

The Liquors window says they are not closing just renovating...

What is the deal with people talking about the whitman projects who:

1) clearly haven't been to the area lately,
2) are overtly racist, and
3) speak poor English?

It happens a lot, is it all the same fool? It's hard to even get mad, it's just bizarre...

It seems the rumors of Liquors' demise are exaggerated.. as kem says, they have been renovating all winter and will reopen in the spring.

i heard that they are not coming back. they also owned bodegas and are sick of the restaurant business. does anyone know the absolute truth vs. all this speculation?

Posted by: Anonymous at March 30, 2006 5:23 PM

an organic food market would be great! if there are any speculators out there-- we are willing customers.

Now that the crazy post has been deleted, my response seems like a crazy post!?!

Yes, please, someone open a decent market in Ft. Greene/ Clinton Hill. Shopping at L'Epicerie just keeps getting weirder and weirder. The signs out front have multiplied-no cell phones, no buying too much bread, no tying one's dog to the pole out front. . .now, it seems, they're trying to get rid of their cat? Poor kitty.

Posted by: Anonymous at March 30, 2006 7:23 PM

now you know why a table went out of business...hopefully this place will be next. let them keep posting the signs.

I asked Candle owners (Vegan restaurant) to open in Fort Greene. They said, "Is that in Brooklyn?"

So I doubt they're heading here any time soon.

Maybe GAry Null could open another health store. THe one he has on the upper west side is great (if overpriced).

Actually I just heard today that Union Market from park slope is looking into opening another gourmet market in Fort Green and considering this location.
I for one can't wait.

Posted by: Anonymous at March 30, 2006 11:41 PM

Some one knows we're here.............

Posted by: Anonymous at March 30, 2006 11:42 PM

where did you hear that about union market?

so funny- i asked the candle cafe to open a restaurant in FG too. my grandmother's apt is around the corner from it.

and the l'epicerie kitty- what do you mean they're trying to get rid of it? i love l'epicerie by the way...

If anyone would be interested in opening an organic market, I've got the capital - let's do something far better than Gary Knoll.
