Grenier Watch: Revealing a New Skin
When we last checked in with Entourage star Adrian Grenier's reno in Clinton Hill, he was discussing his plans to put in an above-ground pool. (Don't worry people, his tongue was planted firmly in cheek.) Now, after a winter wrapped in a Marjam shell, the house is coming out of hibernation, revealing its new and improved wood siding. (We assume it's wood, anyway.) As far as we can tell, he's saving the facade for last. Now about that pesky crack house next door...

That had better be wood. I'm going to be pissed if LPC let him use hardiplank when they forbid me from using it.

hahaha@ Shahn, you know celebrities always get off better than us regular folks so I wouldn't be surprised. I didn't really like the house when I saw the pic of it the first time I think he could have done better but maybe he's fixing it up really nice. I really like him so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

The house is nice, pre-Civil war. Looks like he gutted it which is too bad because it still had details inside. I was all cedar shake so I'm curious as to how he is getting away with the (presumably) wood strip siding.

also, it's a double lot with an entire lot next door for parking - garage at the end of it.

in person its probably a really nice place I think its the shingles or cedar shake that bothered me. I'd love to see what it will look like. maybe Brownstoner should solicit him or his mom to do a reno blog :-)

Does anyone know who is doing the outside side siding. We need to have our house redone too.
Also did landmark give any reason for not using hardiplank. is this house in landmark district?

OK also on propery shark says that there are no permits issued. How is he doing the work?
Posted by: Anonymous at March 30, 2006 4:25 PM
don't check propshark for permits..
go to nyc.gov dept of bldgs.
Posted by: Anonymous at March 30, 2006 4:39 PM
ok did. its schanll. no mention of exterior work which is landmarked and estimated cost is 40,000!
Posted by: Anonymous at March 30, 2006 8:29 PM
You don't need a permit to redo siding on a non landmark block, don't know where his house is so not sure if it is landmarked or not.
Posted by: anon at March 30, 2006 9:39 PM
It is definitely a landmarked block, I know it well.
