Development Watch: A Step Up in Bay Ridge?
With all the negative talk about fugly new developments in the borough, a Bay Ridge resident emailed to suggest we look at a recent building designed by Sears Tambasco Architects that he believes runs counter to this trend. "I heard the developer lives in the neighborhood, hence, he didn't go cheap on us," he writes. "It's proof that with a good budget, good architecture can be accomplished." We have to admit the 6-story, 20,000-square-foot structure is a whole lot better than most of the crap we've been talking about lately. We'd be curious to know how the apartments are priced. The chatter on Wired NY is that the smallest units start at $700,000.

I want to like it but it looks a little office-parky to me.
Granted, it would depend on the context, somewhat. (and it's certainly better than, say, the corner or Fulton and Franklin (or Classon?))

It's nice, I wouldn't say office parky, but I do think it looks like it belongs in Southern California...

for a quick second, this development was on the brooklyn properties site, but then it disappeared. possibly a disagreement between sponsor/bk properties?
anyhow, it looked nice and i think this is on shore road facing the harbor/statue of liberty/verrazano.
reminds me of a poor man's richard meier-type building.

my mom lives around the corner. it looks like an office building and out of context with the surrounding structures. An it has killed parking around there.

I know a lot of people are saying it's out of context, I see it as a breath of fresh air. There are so many ugly buildings that have gone up recently in Bay Ridge, this is refreshing. A building like this on Shore Road should take advantage of the views; hence, a glass beauty. The one built a few years ago next to it is ugly!

I believe the building next to it is a Fedder original.

The building is sold out. Not sure how it could kill parking, since it has its own lot in the rear. The units are lovely, the views spectacular. Yup, I work for one of the selling agencies.

good ... architecture? you're kidding, right?
it looks as if it's about to give birth unto the street.
good lord, it's awful.

It's a great building; a nice change from the drek piling up all of brooklyn (see South Park Slope or the area btw 4th and 5th Aves in Park Slope for examples). It reminds me of a lot of the new residential construction in low-rise parts of Tokyo: unabashedly modern, sleek, but respectful of the scale of the area (from what I can see).
An example of similarly good Japanese architecture:

if only more of this type of work could be built in brooklyn...

I have driven by this complex at night and it looks beautiful!

It looks nice to me, but a little stubby. It would be nice if it could get narrower and taller. But, I assume they maxed out their buildable sq ft.
