Brooklyn Bridge Park Developer Jumping the Gun?

viewDeveloper Robert Levine is charging full speed ahead with plans to build the first wave of luxury condos for Brooklyn Bridge Park--even though opponents say he's jumping the gun. Levine already has two big signs up on the building trumpeting his plans, which include an indoor driving range and private rooftop cabanas in addition to the 450 condominium apartments he says will be ready in about a year. Park planners say the deal is still under negotiation and the Brooklyn Bridge Defense Fund is gearing up to file a lawsuit in the coming months. "We're pursuing every legal means to prevent private housing in the park," says Defense Fund President Judi Francis. Regardless of how you feel about them, don't you think it's looking like condos are an inevitable part of this plan at this point?

This is not the first time condos "anchor" a park.... simply look at battery park city. These people are plain nonsense.... Nothing is good for them. I personally believe this park will be a great asset for the borough.

Haven't actually seen the sign, but from what we've read it sounds like the city has made up its mind conceptually that private development is what will fund this park.

Sadly the city simply can not afford to build new parks. This is not ideal, but better than not having a park there. I can't wait to bring my dogs to this new park. It is going to be really, really great.

oh geez - I hope park isn't being built for pets. Please, no dog runs and keep them leashed. Look how the park grass by 1 Main Street is being destroyed by the dogs.

This building, in particular, already exists. Do they expect the park authority to tear it down? Why not let it help subsidize a fantastic park. Best to fight for a cap on the newly constructed buildings. But it is idiotic to fight against this park, since from the get go the state has asked for maintenance costs to be covered, and waterfront rehab parks don't come cheap.

Judi Francis' building abuts the friggin BQE and she's worried about condos. Don't worry Judi, noise from the truck brakes will drown out the clinking of Martini glasses from 360 Furman Street. PS She doesn't want a park period!

The Furman development is happening. The 3 other new 30-story (and 20-story) condo bldgs to be built are happening. What some people are asking for is a promise that these 4 condo bldgs will be it and that no more bldgs can go up in 5 years.

Judi Francis and her group (whom I like) have lost the battle about the condos and they will be built to finance the marina/park. Still, what isn't clear is the outdoor space the Furman developer thinks is his and will be used for private yards and the city thinks is theirs. It's a very small amount of land.

Isn't easy to develop a building with all of your money coming from the Jehovah's Witnesses and private tax payers dollars.
Can anyone say back room political deals? Who would want to live there even at $300.00/sq. ft.
