Supermodels in Fort Greene? Bien Sur

wek
Can Fort Greene get any more chic? In this month's Vogue, the fashion bible features a full-page photo of model Alec Wek in front of the townhouse she's in the process of renovating. No mention of exact location, but we learn that Wek enjoys trolling for vintage furniture (she scored a pair of 1940's dentist stools on Atlantic Avenue recently) and one of her neighbors is another fashion icon, Bridget Hall. Who knew? The article also includes a reflection on Brooklyn's role in the New York universe:

In a way, the distance between Manhattan and outer-borough Brooklyn is the perfect metaphor for Wek’s attitude toward the fashion world: She knows the place well, loves working there, but takes it on her own terms and is happy to retreat back to her own real life at the end of the day.

Alek's has been in the nabe for at least a year now. I've seen her many times at the Citibank on Clinton & Myrtle.

She has been in the nabe for years...

She's adorable. In the same issue, there's a funny essay about a Brooklyn couple. The photo shows them in their parlor, in front of a gorgeous mantle. Could a Vogue special issue on Brooklyn be far behind?

off topic, but do you notice the resemblence between her leg and the lamppost. she's so darned thin.

I believe she bought a house on Clermont at least four or five years ago (a friend of mine was living on the block when she moved in).

When I saw her four years ago, she was purchasing rolling papers at the bodega on the Northside of Myrtle, at Clermont. How one smokes joints and stays that thin, I can't imagine.

Actually some people use rolling papers to smoke good old fashioned tobacco.

ok

Rolling papers for tobacco, riiight.

Bridget Hall lives in DUMBO, I believe...why does Alek Wek want to advertise where she lives? I'm all for Brooklyn pride, but why invite the weirdos (like us commenting here)? This must be the 3rd article I've seen on where she lives. I have seen here trolling Home Depot on a Friday night -- I thought I was the only geek who spent my Friday nights there.

She's a supermodel -- so presumably a little more cosmopolitan than some of you yokels masquerading as hipsters. In Europe, and especially in the UK, lots o' folks roll their own. It's a great way to avoid the toxins added to commercial cigarettes and the activity itself slows down the number of cigs you can consume.

Toxins, riiight.

nose candy, snow, coke, that's how they stay thin and smoke herb

I know the couple in Vogue and they live in Clinton Hill. The essay has nothing to do with the fact that they live in Brooklyn, but it's a great read.

When will I be in Vogue?
