Mayor's Speech Highlights Yards, Waterfront

In yesterday's State of the City speech, Mayor Bloomberg had a few things to say about Brooklyn. In addition to specifically naming Bushwick and Bed Stuy as the focus of a new anti-poverty initiative, he also mentioned a couple of the biggest development projects in the borough:
In Brooklyn, construction workers will put shovels in the ground at Atlantic Yards, the most exciting housing, commercial, and sports development in Brooklyn’s history...We’ll fully open a new cruise ship terminal in Red Hook, which will become home to the Queen Mary II and 600 new jobs. Also, along the Brooklyn waterfront, the Port Authority will turn over Piers 1 through 5 – and the City will contribute Pier 6 – to the Brooklyn Bridge Development Corporation – something the community has been dreaming about for 20 years!

That's a lot of activity for one year. Quite an exciting time for Brooklyn.

Will there be water taxi service to Manhattan for QM2 passengers? I just can't quite imagine that crowd getting down with the scene in Red Hook.

I assume that yellow cabs will be lined up to bring ship passengers to Manhattan. Think about it - people don't fly into LGA or JFK because of the hip scene in Queens.

Maybe some cabs, but I would think there would be private buses. I mean, the QE2 docks a lot less frequently than planes at LaGuardia. The water taxi does not run from red hook currently.

Is it just me, or does it look like Bloomberg was superimposed onto that picture?

Reminds me of how he used his money to superimpose himself on the office of mayor of NYC.

"Reminds me of how he used his money to superimpose himself on the office of mayor of NYC."
Thank God that he did! Otherwise, we'd have been under the reign of duds like Mark Green and Freddy Ferrer. The only thing higher than the crime rates would be the taxes.
