Fourth Avenue in the 1930s: Lousy with Posters

building
This photo by Bernice Abbott from the late 1930s is a reminder that slapdash poster advertising is hardly a modern phenomenon. According to the NYPL website, these billboards consist largely of ads for movies, football games and political candidates--except for the addition of pop music concerts to the mix, not much has changed. Speaking of change, is this building at 154 Fourth Avenue still there? Can anyone email us a photo?

I think that building is still there. I believe it has a flashing neon sign somewhere near the turret on the corner.

I think these are the buildings with the landlord from hell that was being discussed here.
