We were interested to hear that we're not the only ones in this preservationist-leaning crowd to admire the new modern townhouse on Vanderbilt. Not having seen what the back of the house looks like, we were especially pleased to receive some photos, including the one above. The tipster also shared some intelligence on the future of the St. Joseph's parking lot next door:

The parking lot used to be a garage, but had to be knocked down because of structural defects in the roof. According to St. Joseph's Master Building Plan, they have plans of turning it back into a two story garage at some point in the 'intermediate' future.. St. Joseph's main campus is in Long Island. The majority of SJU students are LI commuters and need a place to park. If they convert the space into something other than parking, this campus would pretty much die.

Does it look like the width of the roof is bigger at the rear or is it just some wacky perspective messing with our head?

I cannot wait for the first rain/sleet/snow storm that dumps all kinds of wet snow on passerby's heads!

The roof looks bigger because it is a multi-sided roof. My geometry is a little rusty, but i think the roof is in the form of Hexahedron(6 sides). The bulding itself would be a Octahedron.

With all the rain we've been having, run-off doesnt seem to be a problem. The entire surface seams pretty slick. With the pitch of the roof and the lack of friction, I wonder if snow would even accummulate on the roof.

also too bad they completely blocked any south sun into the back of beautiful neighboring bldng. the borg have landed assimilate, resistance is futile !!!

Holy Tatooine! Not since my distant travels beyond the outer rim have I come across a Jawa Sand Crawler! Peer over the white chainlink fence and behold the massive powerful treads. I don't buy into the "art gallery" ploy. Most likely a Corellian Mobile Smelter. Check out the roof. are those moisture vaporizers? The Jawa can't be trusted. I can feel their sickly yellow eyes undressing me even as I type these comments.

We got a tip that it's an art studio--not gallery--for a couple of photographers who also own a house in Fort Greene.

My friends and I were walking past it recently and we thought that it was some covert Prada atelier. It is completely out of touch with our 'hood, therefore you know that the NY Times is going to cream all over this in the Real Estate / Sunday Styles section.
