Making Your Stoop Shine

A brownstone owner and enthusiast emailed us this picture of the new lettering over his front door. "A gold leaf address over your door really makes a stoop shine," he writes. Looks good to us. Who's artist behind the job? Aimee German. She can be reached at aimshow@hotmail.com or 718-312-9430. Any other gold-leafing resources that people can recommend?

i saw on a home show years ago gold sticker/scratch on house numbers- these were basically what you have posted in appearance but were something you could by and apply yourself. i have been trying to find them forever- on the show they turned out really beautiful- does anyone know of any resource either for these or a point in the right direction?

HOW MUCH DOES THAT LETTERING COST

Looks beautiful. I have the misfortune of living in a house with a 1/2 number... xxx 1/2 xxx Street. I've never found the stick-on numbers either, never mind any that would allow me to add the 1/2. This might be the perfect solution. Any idea of the approx cost for a "normal" number?

looks great

The 1/2 would look particularly cool. . .i wish i had that designation (although it might mean your house is narrower)!

Actually, no, the "1/2" house is not narrower, it's the same 16-foot width as its neighboring houses.

The Times had a piece on artist Jerry Pagane a while back, reprinted here:

I remember the audio segment being very interesting. He did the front of Baltazar. I wonder if he does brownstones and how much he charges.

I saw this persons work on the fort green garden tour last year and they looked great. The owner Paul Palazzo said they weren't cheap-but good!

Thanks Steve for posting the notice! My name is Aimee German, sign painter, gilder. I have done many addresses on brownstones and store front signs in Brooklyn. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or want to see more samples. I have reasonable rates and do a precise job. I take a digital picture of your doorway and then "photoshop" different fonts and styles in so you can decide what it will look like before I begin. Thanks for your time and interest.

Aimee did our place as well in FG. We are very happy with her work. She uses real gold leaf or gold paint depending on yr budget. I honestly can't remember her exact price. I think it was around $300. We took pix of our house numbers that we like and also a pix of the front of our house. She photoshops a mockup of the sizes and fonts that you choose and lets you approve it before she gets started. I think she mocked up something like 3 or 4 before we settled on ours.
