Hot Tubbing in The Heights

Here are a couple of shots of some rear deck construction going on in central Brooklyn Heights sent to us by a reader in a neighboring rental who ain't too thrilled at the prospect of having to witness the hot-tubbing antics of the rich and famous.

Looks like a good job to me. I'm sure the hot-tub people will do something to make it more private for them, with potted bushes/trees etc...

That's awesome!!!! I love it. That is such an oasis. I'm sure they'll put up an appropriate trellis/climbing plants for privacy. I'm sure they don't want to be seen by their neighbors any more than the neighbors want to see them.

It looks to me that they will put up a fence not to expose the nudity, but you will, of course, still have to listen to the screaming and splashing...

Looks like a great spot. Will be great once the whirlpool owners put up plants or something. I would think they're more concerned about privacy than the brownstone renters or owners nearby.

I didn't comment on AC, but I'm sure neighbors can see it. Certainly in a situation like this one (across a street or backyad)

I'm sorry, but I've got a problem with all of these rear-yard structures popping up in brownstone areas. As a homeowner who is now boxed in by a deck on one side and a two-story extension plus deck on the other, my backyard patio has become a broiler on summer days with no air circulation and I can no longer enjoy sitting outside...not to mention that I have to turn on the lights after 4:00 pm (in summer no less, never mind winter) because the sun is now blocked by the two story extension next door. I also have to endure nosy neighbors eyeing my windows as they go up and down their second story deck stairs to the garden level. I think it's gone too far, and unfortunately, the buildings department turns a blind eye and doesn't care about neighboring quality of life issues. If you've got the money to do it, then you can impinge on your neighbors without regard and respect for others' property.

If you can't beat 'em join 'em: build your own deck.

Build my own deck...no thanks...then I'll have the neighbors in my face...I like my privacy, peace & quiet, but I guess you can't have that anymore in brownstone Brooklyn. What a shame. These homes were never meant to be altered this way. Used to be a nice neighborhood with nice neighbors...

That's right Mike, soon those mean-spirited neighbors will be sitting in their hot tub with binoculars and staring at you through your window. Oh the horror...
