House of the Day: Definitely Ditmas

ditmas house
Mary Kay's got a new listing in Ditmas that sure is purdy. The 15-room Victorian house has stained glass windows, a sun porch and large garden (and a private office with separate entrance). We're not loving the floors from what we can see, but that can be remedied. The listing says this is located in the Ditmas Park Landmark Historic between Ditmas Avenue and Dorchester Road. Sounds good enough to us, but we don't know the area well enough to specifically comment on the immediate area. The price tag of $1.34 million ain't cheap, but it seems like it's buying a lot more house in this case than in some other recent listings. Who's seen it?

Brownstoner:

Check out the 7th Street condos on Corcoran that have open houses this weekend. About $1,000/sq foot in what is basically Gowanus. They better be darn nice at that price!

Yes, but the provenance, enormous size and detail of the Pfizer mansion make it understandable. Who knows if it will go for that price. It is still a single family residence I believe ... with gold guilding on the walls etc!

I'm confused.. Isn't the Pfizer mansion the home priced a click under $2million on East 19th street in Ditmas Park Prospect. The $4million price tag goes with the Gone With The Wind place on Albermarle Road in Prospect Park South, no?

This house is certainly large, and reasonably attractive - although I wouldn't say it's among my favorites in Vic Flatbush... But I have to say, I saw several properties in this nabe a few years ago that had offices carved out of the front porch/reception areas and it really killed the gracious feel the house was originally intended to impart. Anyone been inside this one? I'm betting it's the same deal.

The Pfizer mansion is in Clinton Hill on Clinton Avenue. You can look it up on Corcoran.com.

I believe the Ditmas Park house on 19th is sometimes referred to as the Samuel Gompers house.
