WTF? Bergen Beach New Construction Blues

We can't imagine anyone actually paying $799,000 for one of these eyesores in Bergen Beach but then again we have been accused of being little narrow-minded upon occasion. Come to think of it, though, we wouldn't shell out $799,000 for this if it were on the promenade in Brooklyn Heights.

hi, I live in Bensonhurst (long story) ... anyway, on my block which is west 3rd between Avenue 0 and P, there are 15 x 50 2 floor houses of shoddy quality for sale for 699K and 799K. My husband wandered into a couple of the openhouses just out of curiosity (also not knowing the price initially) and basically said the places were dumps. These kind of things really concern me in regard to the sustainability of the real estate market.

Keep in mind that different things are important to different people.

For some bergen beach is the ideal location because of job, family, community, etc. who knows what is important to each individual.

They probably look at brownstones in Clinton Hill and wouldn't pay over $500k because it's not what they want.

YOU know I dont like the design either, BUT have you ever been to that neighborhood? You cant look at if from a Historic Brownstone Brooklyn point of view. Brooklyn is not all brownstones. These buildings are actually "in context" with the neighborhood. There are also some McMansions there.
Stick to criticising Ft. Green, Clinton Hill and Billyburg. Coz most of the red state people shop at Walmart, doesnt make em bad. They are just not us. And most don't have the choice to buy a 1.8 million dollar century old needing lots of work home in busy New York City. And Brooklyn is a big place. It is diverse. I would not want to live in Boro Park or Bergen Beach, but people do and they also pay high prices for their houses. People have different tastes. Ever been to Dyker Heights at Christmas?

To Tom: totally true. That's why they have the term "brownstone brooklyn"... outside the brownstone belt is a different world, whether it's Canarsie, East New York, or Bergen Beach.
