Preservationists Say "Neigh" to Hay Stable

The news that an old hay stable at 350 Bond Street in Carroll Gardens was being at least partially demolished was a bummer to read yesterday. We understand (though don't totally buy) the developers' argument that the building had fallen into such disrepair that the only option was to take it (at least part of it) down. Like most things, we suspect this comes down to money and not an inability to restore the old structure. We don't really understand the attitude of local preservationists presented in the story that this type of building is an anachronism and therefore not worth saving. What's up with that? Aren't there plenty of old stables that have been repurposed? We don't have any particular knowledge of this property, but it looks worth preserving to us. Maybe what's going on is a form of preservationist triage--they only have so much bandwidth and this place just isn't high on the list. What's the dealio? What the dealy, yo? Are we missing something?
