Development: Scarano in Prospect Heights

804 BergenDaily Heights brought the latest Scarano Architects creation to our attention on Friday. Looks like more of the same to us. Located in Prospect Heights between Classon and Grand, this design does not come as a surprise and is not likely to win over any of the anti-Scarano camp. We'd be interested in hearing what the immediate block is like. It looks okay but not great from the renderings on the website. Are there any architecturally notable buildings on that street? Anyone know anything about completion dates? Pricing?

I cannot believe that this firm actually receives commissions. I worked with Scarano at the Landmarks Preservation Commission, and it sucked. Perhaps the guidelines of historic district designation did not help, but all of his designs were so mediocre and bland. Plus his staff proved to be inefficient; they were so disorganized, behind schedule, etc. Unfortunately, developers seem to like him, and he continues to receive commissions all over brooklyn, especially in beautiful historic neighborhoods... I am still reeling from working on several projects with his firm (and that was a few years ago).

People forget that it is the city planning commision who allowes for these large developments and the developers who buy the properties to buy them. Brooklyn owes much of its revitalization to this architect, who helps make the inevitable a little easier to bear. Its not like any other archtiect would have done a better job!!! Anyone who cmments differently is either a jellous architect or someone who cannot afford to live in their neihborhood due to realestate prices. GET A LIFE!!!

I think the person who wrote this comment is probably angry and landmarks and not at the architect. i worked with landmarks on scaranp projects. i don't know what he is talking about. i thought they were great.

I hope it is a joke because if it was truly posted by Scarano himself it's totally obnoxious. A lot of the people who dislike this work at least in Williamsburg are people with backgrounds in design, architecture and the visual arts. Never mind awards and LPC projects. The word is Overdesigned!! Will all of Brooklyn have new construction designed by the same person? I'm not opposed trying to do contemporary buildings but cheap quick construction practices do not serve severe architecture well. Are these buildings to become the slums of tomorrow? And what about the self-certifying issue. Anyone care to comment on the Williamsburg Finger Building?
