Comparison Shopping in Boston and SF

"Real-estate experts are always on the lookout for urban neighborhoods with upside potential," reported The Wall Street Journal last Friday. Along with this cutting-edge wisdom, the editors included photos of three properties in locations that have begun gentrifying. (We only show the two best ones.) On the left is a 2,750-square-foot Victorian in South Boston listed for $819,000 and on the right is a 2,550-square-foot Victorian house in the San Francisco nabe of Hayes Valley for $1.1 million.
Comment: On a per square foot basis, these places are not any cheaper than a lot of Brooklyn.

SF is more expensive than NY real estate.

SF beats NYC by a fair margin. Manhattan is higher PPSF but for the region SF is way out there.

Even San Diego, where I live, is more expensive than NYC. There is literally almost nothing under 300k here, although that is rapidly changing as the market continues to soften.
