Flea or Busk
As the market establishes itself as a destination, it allows Senor Flea to tap into his inner impresario and add some bells and whistles to your Sunday shopping pleasure. Folks loved watching the Rising Star Fife + Drum Band from Mississippi march through the Flea a couple weeks ago, and we'll be introducing more of the "expect the unexpected" this summer.
To wit, this Sunday Swedish duo Wildbirds and Peacedrums will make the Flea one of the stops on their Brooklyn-wide busking tour, setting up outside the Lafayette entrance around 1pm for a little musical entertainment. We'll see how it goes, so show your support for free Flea fun by coming to check them out.
Later in the afternoon, we'll welcome another marching band--Red Baraat(above)--which has its roots in the North Indian marriage-procession tradition. They're a big mobile dance party of horns, double-sided dhol drums, and generally upbeat revelry, and you're encouraged to join the fun as they march around the Flea. (They're also playing a gig Saturday night at Drom on Avenue A.) Thanks to boomBOOM Presents for hooking that one up.
Also, make sure to stop by the Still Hip Brooklyn booth (W28, near the backstop) this week to get you or your kinder's face painted.

So talking in snotty tones is a real vocabulary? Jailhouse vocabulary? Really that is a phrase you are using? Elitist.

I guess you took his tone as snotty. The guy was a writer for boro president and probably was formally trained. Jail house vocabulary is different. It's stuffing too many sophisticated words in a sentence. It would go like this. In my humble exemplary position, I am inundated by the modicum of respect by the vociferous few who are enlightened by their ignorance. So that's quite different than Senor Flea's writing style.

I disagree. Formally trained in what, writing for BP? Senor Flea, Ze Flea, yes the writing comes across as snobby. Big words or training are not necessary to sound snobby, despite your highly enlightened modicum of sense.

Just curious when he wrote those speeches did he include the ums and the cursing that you can find the beep using? Just curious. Is that too snobby?

Formally trained usually means the crux of his education could have been in journalism, literature, etc. I'll have to ask (not axe) him what the focus of his education was. I know Senor Flea (and the title is anything but snobby) from the market and I think he's doing a great job given the number of complainers he has to deal with. Critics are everywhere from the neighborhood tenants who think they own the streets, to the pain-in-the-ass vendors who are never satisfied and now the first critic of his vocabulary. Now, it's America, and you are entitled to your blog soap box but when you think it over deeply -- was it really that important?

You are the one writing whole paragraphs. Words are not snobby in themselves, attitude and certain inflections. And those come through on the flea blog, I assure you I am not the only one who perceives them like so. Having been trained, or having worked for a the bp of bklyn, does not exactly impress. The mustard on a pastrami sandwich, are the kinds of analogies that guy uses.
No I'm not thinking anything over deeply. Just bored and get very turned off by the writing. So what is your excuse? Why are you even reading this? The title is everything snobby, trust me. He has to deal with complainers? It is called coordinating and doing a job, there will be critics everywhere. You can do that with out being elitist. I don't know him, nor do I vend, but I read these and it leaves an uncomfortable feeling. The voice is confusing.
So that is my opinion, you made yours, senor friend of.

The answer to your question, which is about my motivation, is that I'm a vendor. I too am not star struck with what he did before, but I know he is making this work. He makes mistakes and that's expected, but he also is responsive to the important needs of the market and can make changes quickly. That wouldn't be the case if this was run by a committee. I tell all my employees one rule. If you come to me with a problem, then offer some potential solutions; otherwise you are just a complainer. You should review the writing you criticized. I've looked it over several times and I'm really missing the whole attitude you claim it has.
