Prior to the meeting tonight concerning Walgreens moving into the old Key Food space at 589 Prospect Avenue, Walgreens announced the exciting news that it will join with Key Food to open a full service grocery store at the location. The stores should open up this fall. According to the press release, Walgreens already submitted plans to the Department of Buildings for an expanded, 14,149-square-foot store. And here’s the list of what both businesses will offer: “Fresh produce, a butcher, a deli, dairy products, frozen foods, beverages, snacks, medications, health and beauty aids, toiletries, designer fragrances, greeting cards, small electronics and housewares.” Local pols applauded the news after working closely with the Windsor Terrace community to keep a grocery store in the neighborhood. Walgreens reps will also come to the community to present their plans and a rendering tonight at 6:30 pm at 245 Prospect Park West.

    • Actually, it will be a new Key Food run by a different owner who is looking for input from the community as to what he should carry. He seems eager to please and looking to grow a following. We had some folks visit his other stores and the had quality products and the store was clean and well maintained, something he took a lot of pride in.
