Buggin’ Out: Poetry Inspired by Spike Lee
Brooklyn Honors Spike Lee is a tribute to the famous director. There are various events included in this tribute (including a Father & Son Basketball Tournament on Saturday, June 27). “Buggin’ Out: Poetry Inspired by Spike Lee” will use clips from Spike Lee joints and demonstrate the impact Lee’s films have had on the revived art of spoken word. Walking Tour of Sunset Park
Join curator Andy Urban and tour guide Dave Madden for an informative walk through Brooklyn’s Chinatown. The walk is in conjunction with the exhibit, “Living and Learning: Chinese Immigration, Restriction & Community in Brooklyn, 1850 to Present.”

Brooklyn Flea
The Brooklyn Flea takes place in Ft. Greene on Saturday and its historic Brooklyn Bridge location on Sunday. Both locations feature a great mix of vintage, antiques, jewelry, and food.

Green-It-Yourself: Greenroof Workshop
Learn how to build a lightweight DIY greenroof on your home. Green-It-Yourself: Greenroof Workshop is teaming up with Eco-Brooklyn to teach local home and building owners how to take advantage of NY State tax incentives and make New York a healthier place to live. The workshop guides participants step-by-step through the planning, design, and building processes.

Brooklyn Borough Hall Greenmarket 25th Anniversary
Brooklyn Borough Hall Greenmarket turns 25. There will be a day-long celebration of farmers, community, history, art and, of course, farm-fresh food.

NYC Zine Fest ’09
The NYCZF Organizing Committee is holding the first annual NYC Zine Fest ’09. There will be more than 70 zinemakers, publishers, and institutions participating in the Fest. Workshops, discussion groups, and a screening of zine documentary “100 Dollars and a T-Shirt” will be featured throughout the weekend. There will be food, beer (supplied by Brooklyn’s Sixpoint Craft Ales), coffee, and music.

Brooklyn Record Riot
The 4th Edition of the Brooklyn Record Riot includes over 40 well-traveled record dealers who will convene with rare and common albums of all stripes, 45s galore, and CDs as well. Legendary NYC female DJs will spin endless music throughout the event.

Charles Denson’s Talk on Future of Coney Island
Charles Denson, noted historian and author of the book Coney Island: Lost & Found will give a talk on the future of Coney Island. Following the talk, there will be a screening of the Ric Burns documentary about Coney Island.

Outdoor Screening of “What’s On Your Plate?”
Presented in conjunction with The Afro-Punk Festival, the film What’s On Your Plate? presents a variety of perspectives on how food reaches our urban community and its associated challenges. An introduction by the filmmakers will precede the screening.

Helping the Victims on Myrtle Avenue
Chez Lola will be hosting a fundraiser for the tenants of 491 and 493 Myrtle Avenue. Please bring your check book, wallet, donating spirit, and helpful hand to help the tenants get their lives back together. Chez Lola will be serving light food and refreshments as well.

Crown Heights Day of Service & CHNA Spring Art Fest and BBQ
The Crown Heights Day of Service consists of a voter registration drive, an afternoon of community gardening, and community mural scouting by bike. Also, the Crown Heights North Association will host an art festival and bbq. Proceeds benefit the Crown Heights North Association House Tour, planned for October.
