Brooklyn buyers are getting desperate. A reader got in touch about a home in Prospect Lefferts Gardens where the owner recently passed away. The owner’s daughter, who does not live in Brooklyn, has complained about receiving random telephone calls at her home inquiring whether this PLG home is for sale. (A death notice, with the information about the owner and daughter, appeared on a local blog, and, apparently, the information was taken differently by prospective buyers out there.) Have readers had any similar experiences? We’d imagine that with the growing demand coupled with low inventory in brownstone Brooklyn it happens more than we’d like to believe. If there’s a protocol involved with these types of matters, it seems self-evident that you shouldn’t call up a still-mourning family to push them to sell a house.

  1. i’ve seen a certain religious group of people buy out heirs for a few thousand dollars each when the family can’t all decide. if there’s a hold out, say two out of three family members sell, the last one is really backed in a corner and become the minority owner/heir.

  2. on top of all the letters from companies like dolphin equities who say they are the most active buyer in nyc, you have brokers who constantly call asking if you want to sell. corcoran, eliman.. they are all guilty of it.
