Swizz Beatz on Brooklyn Museum Board

“What do you think?” is what Kasseem Dean, better known as Swizz Beatz, asked Brownstoner in regards to his new appointment with the Brooklyn Museum.

That’s right, the renowned hip-hop musician-producer asked us to share our thoughts on his joining the museum’s board of trustees. Well, we think it’s pretty cool.

No stranger to the art world, Dean’s own private collection includes the works of Kehinde Wiley and Brooklyn-based artists KAWS, Swoon and FAILE, all of whom have been in exhibitions at the museum.

“These guys are my friends and they were going back [to the museum] saying how I was helping them,” he told The Wall Street Journal.

What does this mean for the borough’s favorite institution? According to Dean it’s a “global Rolodex” that will help take “art to the next level.”
