As we mentioned recently in Open and Shut, Subway is coming to Atlantic Avenue. Thanks to a reader for sending in this photo of the sign announcing its arrival. Located next to Montero’s, this space at 75 Atlantic Avenue on the corner of Henry Hicks Street was a bodega for years. Do you think a Subway will be handy to have here, or are there already enough nearby, such as the one at 115 Montague Street? GMAP

  1. I don’t understand the hate for Montero’s. It is a historic family-run bar with great character and characters. It has a tacky karaoke night. The people are nice and the drunk are harmless enough. It is a somewhat odd and refreshingly unpretentious oasis on a weekend night when most of the other bars are overcrowded and rowdy. Plus they have Popeye and Olive Oyl painted on the bathroom doors. C’mon, doesn’t anyone else like this place?
