The owner of the Sunburnt Calf is transferring its three New York City restaurant locations to long-time employees, including one on Vanderbilt Avenue in Prospect Heights. The West Side Rag shares plans for all three locations, although we’re most concerned about what’s to come on Vanderbilt Avenue. Here’s what to expect: “Hawker Bar, a Southeast Asian restaurant that is taking over the Sunburnt Calf’s Brooklyn space and opening on June 3.” The Daily Meal says the the inspiration comes from open food markets in Southeast Asia, and the menu will include sugarcane shrimp skewers, snails in black bean sauce, and clay pot chicken. All three restaurants will be run by longtime Sunburnt employees Tim Harris and Matilda Boland, who are operating under a new restaurant group called Southern Cross Hospitality. Sunburnt Calf officially shuttered after Memorial Day weekend.
