A reader sent in this photo of the Rocawear Mobile Shop which finally popped up at the corner of Flatbush and 5th Avenues this weekend. (Check out the interior of the store here.) Although Atlantic Yards Report admits it’s a “nifty retail concept,” the blog also notes that “it would take a lot of temporary installments–shops, flea market, playground–to bring life to the empty lots created by demolitions in the Atlantic Yards footprint.” Indeed.

  1. Just wonderful…

Maybe Ratfink can pile thousands of shipping containers and trailers one on top of the other. It wouldn’t look much different than the red, stacked cube building (no doubt, not-water tight…MIT failure, Anyone?).

Do my fears of post-apocalyptic architecture have any basis?

  2. I walked past it on my way to Target (when I went to the Flea I crossed Flatbush at Bergen).

Seems like an interesting idea, and while I appreciate they may be trying to bring some life to that miserable no man’s land between Flatbush and Atlantic, I can’t help but think there are at least 1000 better locations in the borough to set up shop.
