Last Friday I Love Franklin Avenue published details about a dispute over the vacant lot at 1446 Bedford Avenue on the corner of Park Place. The open space was purchased by surrounding residents and building owners from the Brooklyn Ecumenical Council back in 1994 for the dedicated use of a park and garden. A developer who recently bought adjacent property apparently has other plans for the space. The developer destroyed many of the trees, shrubs, and bushes at the garden. Residents are fighting back and challenging any incoming development: a meeting is scheduled this Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 6:30pm in the Day Care Center on the first floor of 1448 Bedford Avenue. This comes not long after another community garden space was lost to a developer on Franklin Avenue.
