  1. I remember my Dad canceling NY mag in the early 80s ’cause he said it was getting too elitist. I was annoyed. Then Dad got his revenge because 25 years later I did the same thing for the same reason. What a rag. Always seems to focus on .5% of the NYC population and isn’t happy unless a vendor they reco is double the norm plus 25%.

  2. Upon the recommendation of my structural engineer, I consulted with Carl Culbreth of Preserv re doing some facade work on my limestone last year. By far, Carl was the most impressive contractor I have ever talked with (and I have talked with many) about doing the work. In fact, I have yet to meet a contractor of any kind who has as much experience coupled with apparent love and respect for historic brownstone/limestones as he does. In discussing his approach, he suggested painstaking solutions for my facade issues that no other contractor even dreamed of. And, he was the first contractor to turn me onto Cathedral Stone. On top of it, he has great customer skills. I can see why he made NY Mag’s list. BUT. . . in order to afford Carl and Preserv, I would have had to have hit the lottery. This is definitely one of those cases in which you get what you pay for. And you most certainly will pay a whole lot!
