Lululemon Athletica opened at 166 Smith Street in Boerum Hill this morning, and in celebration will be giving away treats and holding events all weekend long. A candlelit yoga class will take place this evening from 8:30 to 9:30 pm, and there will be yoga and live music Sunday morning from 9 to 10 am. Also, a Green Pirate juice truck will be stationed outside on Wyckoff Street Saturday from noon to 4 pm, serving up complimentary fresh juices and smoothies. If you look closely at the building’s exterior, you’ll see “Brooklyn” spelled out in curly lettering on the right side of the building. Click through to the jump to see the interior. This building is absolutely hideous and I don’t think the curlicues do much more than distract from this craptacular builder’s special blighting my hood. I think the bunker was better.
I find it interesting that all of the people criticizing the design of the shorefront seem to be men. Guess what guys, this store is not designed with you in mind, so your opinions are irrelevant.
I am not a woman, or into joga, but I can see the appeal. I love the ironwork, it is fanciful and really helps them stand out in a pretty low key way. this kind of creative design should be applauded, not put down. the designers for this large national chain obviously put a lot of thought and effort into this particular store. This is a great addition to Smith street, and is 500% better than the bunker it replaced!
less is more. the metalwork is way too much, especially when combined with the wooden entrance. it is, however, nice to see a new business on smith street.
