Long-Shuttered Long Island Restaurant Hiring

Jeremiah’s Vanishing New York has spied help wanted ads for a chef and manager for Long Island Restaurant on Atlantic Avenue in Cobble Hill, closed since 2007. “We are restoring the Long Island Bar, an iconic corner spot in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. Operated by one family since the 1950s, the Long Island Bar is a neighborhood landmark,” the ads said. Two years ago, The Brooklyn Paper reported that the owners of the property planned to rent it to a new tenant. At the time, the owners said the new renters intended to keep the iconic neon sign and the Art Deco bar. Now, two years later, it looks like a new restaurant might be opening sometime in the next few months. The ads were vague about what exactly the new incarnation plans to serve, except it should be “uncommonly delicious…simple, great, focused food.”
