No word if there will be any ghostly spirits around at tour time, but you’ll get a chance this summer to check out the stories and people behind Brooklyn’s pre-prohibition distilling industry at Green-Wood Cemetery.

A partnership between Green-Wood Cemetery and Kings County Distillers has brought the “Dead Distillers Trolley Tour” to life. The tour will visit the the graves of those with connections to the distilling industry in the borough, including the sole casualty of Brooklyn’s Whiskey Wars in the 19th century.

Following the cemetery tour, the trolley will travel to Kings County Distillery in Brooklyn Navy Yard, allowing patrons to see how whiskey is made. The distillery tour will include a tasting of four varieties of whiskey.

This tour is based on the newly published book Dead Distillers: A History of the Upstarts and Outlaws who Made American Spirits by Colin Spoelman, co-founder and Master Distiller at Kings County Distillery. The book, which examines the lives of 50 historic characters involved in the making of booze, will be available for purchase at the distillery.

The tour will kick off at 3:30 p.m. at Green-Wood Cemetery on Saturday, July 15. Patrons must be 21 and over. The tour is $35 for members of Green-Wood and the Brooklyn Historical Society and $40 for non-members. For more information on the tour, click here.
