ugh, that nytimes piece on the glamour editor. so embarassing and so condescending. while the times is doing its best to pump up brooklyn, it’s presenting it in such an apologetic tone. like brooklyn is still manhattan’s red-headed step child, but hey, it’s full of swanky townhouses (which we can gut and renovate to our own specs) and maybe even some nice restaurants. how surprising! how charming!
Maybe a house in 1996 that had been last renovated 20-30 yrs earlier could get by without much work. But now that same house was last touched almost 40-50 yrs ago. Definitely more likely it needs a lot of systems work – which means more likely to take some walls down. Putting in recessed lighting is optional.
Maybe it’s because we take the sensational reporting of the Daily News and the Post with a grain of salt. But we expect more from the Times? Not sure why at this point, but…
