The newest Brooklyn transplant is beloved Mexican restaurant El Atoradero, which opens to the public tonight in Prospect Heights after being priced out of the Bronx this summer.

In her first venture down from New York’s northernmost borough, beloved Bronx chef Denisse Lina Chavez is relocating her homestyle Pueblan cuisine to 708 Washington Avenue.

The new restaurant will be in “soft opening” mode until early January, partner and Brooklyn restaurateur Noah Arenstein told Brownstoner. The spot won’t have a full menu until January, but it will change daily. “Very excited about the soft opening as we’ve been working on the restaurant since July,” he said in an email.

A Brownstoner tipster dined at the restaurant Tuesday at a “friends and family” event. He was particularly impressed by “a smoky mescal drink called Smoke Monster,” he told us.

A massive upgrade from Chavez’s four-table Bronx kitchen, the new space seats up to 50 people in an open space with the bar and kitchen in the center, according to GrubStreet.

In addition to Arenstein, Chavez has also partnered with Brooklyn restaurateur Josh Kaplan for the venture. Kaplan is a partner in Carroll Gardens’ Dassara Ramen, and Arenstein has led Jewish sandwich pop-up Scharf & Zoyer and partnered in Williamsburg’s “church of pork,” Arrogant Swine.

Like many, they’re adoring fans of Chavez’s cooking.

The restaurant opens to the public tonight from 6 to 11 p.m.
