A tipster let us know that the long-abandoned construction site at 340 Dean Street, between 3rd and 4th Avenue, is not long for this world. He reported on Monday: “Demolition began in earnest today on the completed shell of the Scarano designed building at 340 Dean Street in preparation for its reconstruction on the same footprint and same FAR. Apparently the construction (2006 – 2010) by the original owner was so shoddy that it was cheaper for the current developer to take it down and rebuild it.” Indeed, the Department of Buildings issued a new building permit this March for a four-story, eight-unit build. The DOB did renew the Scarano permits back in 2011 but obviously those never went anywhere. The site last changed hands in 2010 for $1,400,000.
