A tipster let us know that a daycare center is set to open at 258 4th Avenue, right next to the Root Hill Cafe. She explained, “I talked to the owner and they said they will offer organic food for the kids, baby yoga and Chinese language classes. Pretty neat.” GMAP

  1. Wow I totally agree – lots of haters! Racism and elitism? I would expect brownstoners to ask before they judge.

Anyhow I am always for a business that brightens up 4th Ave and this looks like a cleaner environment for anyone who needs a day care compared to the place on 5th. At least its not in a dark upstairs apartment like some other places.

I don’t know how much this place costs, maybe its more, maybe its less but I’m not going to pass judgment unless I ask.

I walked by this morning and it seems very kid friendly. Owner looks like a sweet lady trying to cater to the growing number of families moving into the neighborhood.

  2. Yuck. What a bunch of haters in this thread. I don’t even understand how elitism and racism got into this conversation. And it’s nowhere near the canal, so that comment is just silly. This is very close to my house. I spoke to the owners the other night. They seem super nice and the place looks sweet. I think they are Chinese, hence the Chinese lessons. And ‘saplet’ is right, “How much do you think it’s fair to pay people who take care of babies?”

  3. “For those of you who think it’s elitist that daycares are expensive: $17K/year in daycare fees translates to about $9/hour. How much do you think it’s fair to pay people who take care of babies?”

My mother didn’t pull a salary for taking care of us. What did your mom charge?

  4. hahahah no one said daycare is elitist in and of itself. but yeah damn it looks expensive! cant you just leave them in the crib with the tv on, a water bottle, and some food? maybe have a looping sound recording coming from the apartment of an adult voice so no one calls child protective services on you?

    *rob*

  5. There is a daycare center next door to that space already, Tiny Steps.
