Last week Aaron Short’s report on the Community Board 1 meeting on his blog, A Short Story, included a mention of plans for the Humboldt Street Plaza. The 7,000-square-foot pedestrian plaza that’s being built in front of the Moore Street Retail Market in Bushwick will have perches designed by the artist Austin Thomas, a la the one pictured in the mock-up above. Thomas says this about them on her site: “Perches are all about people and place, they are multifunctional (used as lunch spots or for concerts), offering a quiet vantage point from which to take in the surroundings, and are an architectural point of departure for social interaction.” The plaza is supposed to be finished by the end of next year.
