One of Brooklyn’s oldest churches, the Old First Reformed Church in Park Slope, is seeking $700,000 to restore its ceiling, the Wall Street Journal said. Last year during services, a chunk of plaster fell on a worshiper. The church has received some small grants from conservation groups but will likely need to take out a loan to pay for the restoration. Church restoration expert Michael Devonshire said plaster panels must be reattached to more than a half-mile of wooden supports with new fasteners, and the process will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and take months to complete.
