The march Monday calling for new gun control legislation by the organization One Million Moms for Gun Control will start in Brooklyn. The event begins on Martin Luther King Day at 9:15 am at the corner of Middagh Street and Cadman Plaza West. There, Marty Markowitz will share some remarks and a moment of silence. At 9:35 am the group will take to the Brooklyn Bridge Pedestrian Walkway and make its way to City Hall. A rally on the steps of City Hall will run from 10:30 to 11:30 am and feature speakers like Council Member Tish James and Shannon Watts, the founder of One Million Moms. Part of the purpose of this event will be to thank our local legislators for putting partisanship aside in favor of common-sense regulations. National goals include an ban on assault weapons and ammunition magazines of more than 10 rounds, universal background checks for gun purchases, mandatory reporting of large quantities of ammunition to the ATF, and limitations on the scope of concealed weapons laws on the state level. We agree that NY has enacted some of the best laws in the country. Now we want the country to follow our lead! I hope this answers your question!
