Last night Community Board 6 approved a liquor license request for Dale Talde and his crew to open another restaurant in the old Aunt Suzie’s space, at 247 5th Avenue between Carroll and Garfield. (The proprietors already operate Thistle Hill Tavern and popular newbie Talde.) “We’ve waited all our lives to welcome them into the store,” said Irene LoRe, who owns the building and also operated Aunt Suzie’s. The space won’t have outdoor seating. Despite the owners being pretty-tight lipped about the menu, there’s been word the space will be very casual and “mullet friendly.” One of the owners told the community board there will be barbecue. With Fort Reno Provisions open and Dinosaur BBQ coming soon, that means there will be lots of ‘cue options for Slope residents. GMAP

  1. i too have had more than a few mediocre experiences at thistle hill. every time i am passing by i think to myself “what am i missing?” the bar is the best thing about that place – but the food is so truly underwhelming. It is for that reason alone i haven’t gone to Talde – and i circle just about every restaurant in south slope every couple weeks. I am just not sure the owners have taste buds (let alone every piece of meat i order is always overcooked), and this location on 5th will not be so kind if they don’t step up the food. it is a good location though.
