Brooklyn Half Marathon Rock 'n Roll

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Brooklyn Half Marathon, which took place Saturday, was the largest ever inaugural half-marathon in the U.S.

With 17,500 runners representing every state and 32 countries, The Rock ‘n’ Roll Brooklyn Half Marathon took participants on a fast-paced tour of the borough.

Beginning in Prospect Park, the 13.1-mile route wound along Eastern Parkway and Ocean Avenue before returning to Prospect Park for the finish line in the Nethermead.

While runners complained a delayed start from increased security screenings left them cold, participants found the day to be an overall success.

Bands, cheerleaders, family and friends encouraged participants from along streets and avenues, bringing extra exuberance to the event.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Half, part of the Competitor Group’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, was scheduled the day before the Staten Island Half Marathon. The Staten Island Half was organized by the New York Road Runners (NYRR) and drew over 9,500 runners.

The NYRR also holds an annual Brooklyn Half every spring, which at more than 25,000 participants is the largest half-marathon in the country.

  1. Is this a news post or sponsored? If news, I don’t get it. The lack of context (or misdirected context) is bizarre. Not that race size is everything, but if that’s the newsworthy metric, how can you fail to mention that NYRR’s own Brooklyn half marathon, held every spring, is the largest in the country? Something like 25000+ runners in 2015.
