Gentrification is one of the most talked-about issues in Brooklyn today, and now WNYC and The Nation have launched a new podcast all about it. There Goes the Neighborhood explores the “destabilizing phenomenon” of gentrification in Brooklyn through the experiences of current residents, business owners and developers.

The first of the series’ eight installments went out today.

The episode, called “Mouth to Ear,” features clips from various borough residents who’ve been pressured to move out of their apartments, feel guilty for moving in or have simply noticed the general change wrought in their communities by the swift waves of gentrification.

The podcast discusses issues of white privilege, black displacement, landlord harassment and tourism in Brooklyn neighborhoods from Williamsburg to Prospect Lefferts Gardens that are experiencing a shock of attention from home buyers and out-of-towners alike.

The second episode will air next Wednesday, March 16, on WNYC’s website. Listen to the first episode below.
