Could Layla-Replacing Laundromat Ease "Laundry Desert" in Boerum Hill?
Breaking news: A laundromat might be coming to the old Layla space on Hoyt Street.
Breaking news: A laundromat might be coming to the old Layla space at 86 Hoyt Street. As anyone who lives in the area knows, it has a reputation as a “laundry desert,” as one Instagram commenter put it.
In 2015, a laundromat with a parking lot at 472 Atlantic Avenue was demolished to make way for a condo building designed by architect Morris Adjmi.
There are a sprinkling of laundromats closer to 86 Hoyt Street, including one at 325 Atlantic and another at 137 Smith.

Home goods and clothing boutique Layla moved a block away to 352 Atlantic Avenue earlier this year, leaving its old shop empty — perhaps opening the door for less schlepping for residents in search of clean clothes.
