96 Lefferts Place, the freestanding wood home on the block, was completely torn down by yesterday afternoon. DOB approved demolition permits this January. The parcel comes with the right to build a 14,392-square-foot building (not to mention it’s adjacent to a huge empty lot) so development seems imminent. DOB has not yet approved any new building permits. 96 Lefferts, according to preservationists, was one of the last remaining suburban villas in Brooklyn that dates back to the 1830s. The demolition inspired an online petition to landmark the block.
