New Restaurant on Atlantic Ave.
Earlier this month the space at 282 Atlantic, between Smith and Boerum, filed for a liquor license, and the sign on the door says a new restaurant’s to open. There’s a pretty cute collection of restaurants and cafes on that stretch of Atlantic, hopefully this place will fit in nicely. GMAP
New Bike Lanes on Smith and Hoyt

Good news for BoCoCa bikers, as this spring will bring extended bike lanes to and from the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges. Bicycle lanes on Smith and Hoyt street will be added, with the Smith street lane going from Bergen to 9th Street, and the Hoyt Street lane going from Bergen to 3rd Street. Nine parking spots will be lost on Hoyt between Bergen and Wyckoff. Worth the trade?

Streetlevel: Green Giant of Baltic Street Filled
The Green Giant of Baltic Street is filled… but under mysterious circumstance. In January we checked in on this building at Court and Baltic, which is something of a sore thumb with its glass facade and neon green trim. Seven months after being built, it’s now the home to… three bicycles? Yes, a ladder and three rather cumbersome looking bikes on display. With its twenty foot high ceilings and nonexistent privacy it doesn’t seem like a building much good for anything, but maybe a bike store will fit in fine. Anyone heard any more information?

Streetlevel: Design Store Done in Park Slope
Matter, a furniture and design store on Park Slope’s Fifth Avenue, is closing up shop at the end of this month. The shop, which has been in Park Slope for six years, has a sister store in Manhattan that will remain open. With the Abitare home decor store recently closed in Brooklyn Heights, it looks like these upscale design places continue to have an uphill battle in this economy. GMAP
Prospect Heights Dunkin Donuts Seized
The Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robbins on the corner of St. Marks and Flatbush has been seized, emptied, and locked up. The reason was unclear from the notice posted on the door, did anyone know of any trouble already brewing there? GMAP
Streetlevel: Italian Joint Expanding in Williamsburg
As noted last week on the New York Shitty blog, Carmine’s II, a new Italian pizza restaurant, looks set to open soon in Greenpoint at 436 Union Avenue. There’s already a Carmine’s Pizzeria on Graham Ave, but we’re unsure if Carmine’s II means the places are related, or the owners of this new spot were too uninspired to come up with an original name.

Streetlevel: Vintage Clothes and Decor on 5th
No big surprises here: Guvnor’s Vintage Thrift is moving next door into 176 5th Avenue and will reopen mid-March, and their old location has been filled by Gift Man, another decor/knick-knack shop on Park Slope’s 5th Avenue stretch. With the huge amount of store closings in the area, we’ll see if this place can tough it out. GMAP
More Bagels For 7th Avenue
Close to a year ago, Park Slope Farm opened up at 106 7th Avenue, much to the glee of nearby residents who were in need of a convenient and well-stocked bodega. Seems like things didn’t go as planned though: It’s already closed and boarded up, and although there are no signs out yet, the work order notice tells us the place is being remodeled into another bagel cafe. Pretty stiff competition, with the La Bagel Delight and the Bagel Hole further down 7th, don’t you think? GMAP
Another Atlantic Ave Design Store Biting the Dust
The Brooklyn Heights decor and gift store is closing up shop at the end of this month. The tiny store has been around since 2006, and owners say they won’t be relocating. Looks like that corner of Henry and Atlantic will feel pretty barren soon, what with the shuttering of Nova Zembla. GMAP
