This celebration of spring will feature Easter Bunny, AudraRox!, and Butterfly Boogie with the Wildlife Theater Company. Spot some birds with Brooklyn birdwatcher, Carolyn Murphy. Come to Pier 1 for an egg toss, egg roll, a duck race, and other games to get your feet moving! Karma Kids Yoga will also be there to help you practice your yoga poses, Ditch Plains joins the fun with tasty snacks, and New York Transit Museum and the Brooklyn Public Library will host activity tables. 2nd Annual CAPP Safe Kids 5k
The Child Abuse Prevention Program proudly presents its 2nd Annual CAPP Safe Kids 5k. Be one of the 400-500 walkers/runners expected to trek through Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, paving the way to a brighter future for New York City’s youth. If the thought of a 5k is enough to send you running for the hills, show your support from the sidelines. The event will also feature a kid’s fun run, family friendly activities, refreshments and live music. Funds raised will directly support CAPP’s Child Safety Workshop, the only educational program that uses life-sized puppets to teach kids in New York City how to recognize, resist and report physical & sexual abuse. On Sunday, the Flea will be at 27 North 6th Street (between Kent Avenue + East River). The Flea features over a 150 vendors offering a great mix of vintage, antiques, jewelry, and amazing food. Saturday & Sunday, April 23 & 24. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free.

Back To The Eighties Bowl with Rubix Kube
RUBIX KUBE has taken New York City and the country by storm, headlining regularly at their weekly BACK TO THE EIGHTIES SHOW at Canal Room in the heart of TriBeca. RUBIX KUBE is more than just a cover band; it is a true ‘BACK TO THE EIGHTIES SHOW’ experience. With lead vocalists Scott Lovelady and Cherie Martorana, along with some of the best musicians in the business, decked out in retro 80s attire, RUBIX KUBE performs all the hit pop and rock songs from the 80s. Lecture by Anne Rasmussen: Middle Eastern Music in Brooklyn: The New York Nahda
BHS partners with the Center for Traditional Music and Dance (CTMD) to present one in a ten-part lecture series by leading ethnomusicologists/folklorists entitled “The Sounds of Immigrant New York” in Winter/Spring 2011. Anne Rasmussen, PhD, a leading ethnomusicologist in the field of Middle Eastern Music to present a lecture on the Middle Eastern music scene in NYC. Dr. Rasmussen is a professor at William and Mary; where she also directs a Middle Eastern ensemble. For this presentation, Rasmussen surveys a century of dynamic Arab American music culture with a focus on New York and suggest the ways in which the last twenty years may be characterized by neo-classism and multicultural fusion. BKLYN <3 JAPAN
An estimated 350,000 are reportedly homeless from the devastation caused by the Japanese tsunami and 9.0 magnitude earthquake earlier this month. The Bell House has put together a two-part benefit (the second half happening this weekend) to raise funds to help the disaster relief effort in Japan. 100% of the ticket and silent auction sales will benefit GlobalGiving, a charity that is currently disbursing funds to organizations providing relief and emergency services to victims of the earthquake and tsunami. The funds will directly help survivors and victims with recovery efforts. Friday, April 15. 7 p.m. $15. 149 7th Street, The Bell House.

Underground Muses of Green-Wood

Many famous and fascinating artists, sculptors, actors and composers have made GreenWood Cemetery their place of final repose. Leonard Bernstein, Fred Ebb, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Asher B. Durand, George Caitlin, George Bellows, William Merritt Chase, and John LaFarge are just a few we will visit with urban historian Ruth Edebohls. We’ll also enjoy the visual delights of Green-Wood, its trees and ponds and its sculpture and buildings by the leading artists and architects of their time, all in a setting of remarkable springtime beauty. In this lively story of sports, politics, and the talented, hilarious, and charming characters associated with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Bob McGee chronicles the ballpark’s vibrant history from the drawing board to the wrecking ball, beginning with Charley Ebbets and the heralded opening in 1913, on through the storied eras that followed. McGee weaves a story about how Ebbets Field’s architectural details, notable flaws, and striking facade brought Brooklyn and its team together in ways that allowed each to define the other. Baseball’s Early Legends Trolley Tour
As the 2011 baseball season begins, join Green-Wood historian Jeff Richman for a tour of the fascinating baseball pioneers interred at Green-Wood. We&amp;rsquo;ll visit the monuments and gravestones of Henry Chadwick, the Father of Baseball, who invented the game&amp;rsquo;s scoring system; James Creighton, baseball&amp;rsquo;s first national star; Charles Ebbets, owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers; the great hitter Charlie Smith; and many others who played a role in making baseball America&amp;rsquo;s National Pastime. Saturday, April 9. 1 p.m. $10/$20. Meeting Point: Inside the main entrance at 25th St. and 5th Ave. at Green-Wood Cemetery.

Touch-A-Truck Brooklyn
At this exciting family event also a fundraiser to help support arts programs at PS 295 – kids will have a chance to climb inside, touch and explore some of the working trucks and vehicles they see in everyday life. Come and check out: an FDNY fire engine, NYPD police car, DSNY Garbage truck, Ambulance, Airstream trailer, Concrete mixer, Dump truck, Moving van and much more. Some of Brooklyn’s famed gourmet food trucks will also be selling savory treats on-site. Saturday, April 9. 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. $5. 18th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, PS 295.
