Sunset Park Two-Bedroom With Details in Brick Victorian Asks $2,100 Per Month

This Sunset Park two-bedroom rental isn’t going to peel anyone’s eyelids back, but it looks clean and spacious, with a charming Victorian feel. And it seems not badly priced, at $2,100 a month.

We’ll get the obvious drawback out of the way: You could throw a rock from here and hit the elevated Gowanus Expressway, and for that matter the 3rd Avenue stretch it runs over is no bucolic country lane. So there’s noise and exhaust fumes to consider.

The flip side is that it’s just a five-minute walk to the N and R lines at 59th Street and 4th Avenue, the first of which will get you to Manhattan in three stops.

What you’ll find inside are four rooms, probably a floor-through apartment, with new hardwood floors. With no floor plan and minimal photos, the layout is a little hard to suss out. There’s a master bedroom with a pair of bay windows, and an open-plan living room and kitchen with exposed brick and a decorative fireplace.

There’s also a small “dressing room or office,” seemingly off the master bedroom, and a “bonus room that could be a nice den, playroom or lounge.” The listing, from David Carter at Brown Harris Stevens, doesn’t specify which is the second bedroom.

The unit is located in an attractive 19th-century brick building, part of a row with incised decoration over the doors and Victorian iron railings. Inside, we spy some nice Victorian-looking details such as the window and door moldings. (The listing calls the building a “historic brownstone,” though we suspect it may have been built as an apartment house.)

The unit’s been vacant for a while, having hit the market in September with a price tag of $2,500. Within weeks it had been lowered to $2,300, but still nobody bit, and it’s just been reduced by another $200. Think it will move at the current price?
